[VERIFIED] The 40 foot shipping container on a trailer located within a shipping yard has been isolated by LAFD HazMat units. A 500 foot isolation zone has been established, as well as a 1000 foot safety perimeter. The substance in question is believed Sodium Hydroxide per the placard on the container. This product poses no health hazard other than a topical irritation when touched. There is no airborne threat associated with this product. LAPD HazMat units are en route to the scene to assist in opening the container to confirming the type of product, assess additional risks or hazards and begin off-loading of the contents. LAFD is in Unified Command with LA Port PD. All railway operations are continuing in the area. This will be an extended operation with updates to follow.

[VERIFIED] Preliminary report of a 40' shipping container on a trailer off gassing. A perimeter has been set up at the shipping facility where the container is located. Hazmat units are confirming the type of product per placards and air monitoring.
